Logo design process

Because of Covid-19 pandemic we ran this workshop over zoom!

I asked everyone to offer their design featuring a ‘W’ and to share these via the WhatsApp group which we find useful to communicate brief messages.

Fran used the colours purple and green in her design

Michalis used lower case letters ‘without words’

Eric played with graphic forms in blue

Ralitsa joined two w together and made a starlike shape with joining hands

Kostas son favoured green and made two ww and good shapes

A logo needs to work well in different scales, say something about the project, be accessible and very clear. It may be a small social media icon or a large banner or projected background.

As this project is about exploring non-verbal, aesthetics and physical performance and communication I wanted to make the text ‘without words’ look like it was disappearing.  However I thought this might not be easily read or understood - so instead opted for a font which looks it might be a piece of sewing being undone. The most recurring colours were green, blue and purple so I combined these, fading into each other.

I have combined all these elements and arranged the w in a way which creates a star like shape, possibly a reference to the EU flag. It is visually playful in that you can see lots of graphic form options to identify w within the shapes. Some point inwards representing reflection and some outwards representing openness to new ideas. It is a strong symbol of unity and radiates power

Looking forward to working with everyone - without words.
